Transportation Around Istanbul The best way to get to the various magnificent monuments in Sultanahmet in Old Istanbul is to walk; they're all within easy distance of one another. A tram system runs from Topkapi, via Sultanahmet, to Sirkeci. The Tünel, a tiny underground train, is handy for getting up the steep hill from Karaköy to the bottom of Istiklâl Caddesi. It runs every 10 minutes and costs about 40¢. Trams run the length of Istiklâl Caddesi from Taksim to Tünel and cost about 40¢. |
