Sukru Saracoglu Stadium - Fenerbahce SK, Istabul

Sukru Saracoglu Stadium is the home ground of the Turkish football club Fenerbahce SK.

It is located in Kadiköy close to Fenerbahçe in Istanbul. The stadium was inaugurated in 1908 and renovated between 1999 and 2003.

The stadium is unique in that most Turkish stadiums have a running track between the pitch and the stands, while here the fans are on top of the action. The current capacity is 52,000, but the stadium is undergoing considerable renovation again. When the construction is complete the capacity will rise to 60,000.

Kadiköy, ancient Chalcedon, is a cosmopolitan district on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, Turkey where there are not only several churches (Greek, Armenian, Serbian and some Protestant) but also the oldest Mosque in Istanbul (built before the conquest of Constantinople).

The centre of the district is the hub of traffic for people travelling from the Asian side of the city to the European and back the other way. It also has the main train terminus for trains to Anatolia and nearby Harem has coach services also to Anatolia.

The centre of the district itself is generally old and working class and home to many students as well as a small number of Westeners.

While the streets are filled with street vendors the side streets are filled with bars and the sea front with cafes selling everything from tea to kebabs and grilled fish.

Further up from the sea front, there are many expensive shops and the area goes more up market, some of the most expensive houses in Istanbul can be found in areas such as Moda and Fenerbahce which are both in Kadiköy.
