Istanbul Fethiye MuseumFethiye Museum, which is located in Fatih-Carsamba province of Istanbul is known as Pammakaristos monastery church commissioned during Byzantine period. A grave chapel was added to the church with the end of Latin invasion in XIII. century.
After the conquest, the church was kept by Christians and used as women monastery. In 1455 the the patriarchate was moved here and it continued its service as a patriarchate until 1586.
Between the years of 1574-1595, the church was turned into a mosque by Sultan Murat the 3rd and was given the name Fethiye. Contemporarily, the museum was turned into a unit of St. Sophia Museum after being repaired in 1938-1940. |
